My Lawnmower
museum
My junk Yard. I feel good about recycling these mowers as we are in the age where everyone is just buying a new el cheapo mower from the mass merchant and throwing the old one away every couple of years. The quality of the American product has taken a great decline and the quality product is a thing of the past and the throwaway is here.
I get a lot of Old worn out Snapper Mowers on trade and from other dealers. I especially like them because of the ability to recycle the old parts which they had the good sense to make so they could be rebuilt and with very little model change through the years. The decks are steel and pretty indestructible. Here is one that was just thrown away. They cut wonderfully second to none in ability to vacuum and are much favored by Commercial Lawn cutters for there reliability and dependability. I will take you through the entire rebuild and you won't recognize it. It was saved from the junk yard and will soldier on well into the future.
Got it all torn down, now just clean up the parts and repaint them
Here is the deck after the mower is completely disassembled and put through my glass bead blaster.
Cleaned to bare metal and using a two part Primer on the Bare metal
Primer sealer applied. This is a two part epoxy that is sprayed to seal the bare metal. The sanding primer or primer surfacer will be sprayed next
Painted this one two tone yellow and am going to put some fun Tiger stuff on it. It is called the Tired Tiger Model
What a great decal I bought from Vern Moldrem at a reunion a couple of years ago. I knew I would find the perfect place for it someday
Here's an experiment I am going to try to paint the bags. Using a stencil I got some of the paint that is used to put things on fabric and then heating it with an iron it permanently heat sets it.
Using a small spray gun and the special airbrush paint for fabrics.
After heating with a hot iron paint is set in the fabric
I tear the old transaxles completely down and put in new bearings and oil seals and they are as good as new. Here are a couple torn down and cleaned. The one at the top is what they look like before. Rebuilt the are worth a hundred bucks and I also sell them as reconditioned parts.
Transaxle rebuilt and assembled, I use SEM Trim Black to paint the black parts on the mower. It is a high quality auto detailing paint and works very well
Here's a couple of pictures of my Mower Shop and Service area
