FIGURE 1:  Vertical Stab. Rivets

Step 1-  Cleco theVS-1001 Vertical Stabilizer Skin to the skeleton. Use plenty of clecos to keep aligned. Figure 1 provides rivet sizes for the vertical stab. skin. See PDF click here

Step 2- Remove the VS-1005 Bottom Nose Rib to gain access to the VS-1013 Middle Nose Rib. Rivet the skin to the middle nose rib starting at the VS-1002 Front spar and moving forward on both sides

Step 3-Rivet the VS-1006 Top Rib to the skin forward of the front spar only.

Step 4- Cleco the bottom nose rib back in place and rivet it to the skin only, not to the front spar. Do not install rivets into the holes which will be used to attach the empennage fairing

Step 5- Rivet the skin to the front spar on both sides.

Finish riveting as described in steps 6-9 Page 6-6

Vertical stabilizer completed except for fairing

In preparation for fitting rudder and a place to store, I clamped it to the tables. I couldn't resist the Van's Air Force Decal on the protective coating. People ask a lot of questions about what I am building in a lawnmower shop. Well after all the Wright's started out in a bicycle shop.

Saw this nice little tool on Avery's catalog. It looks like it might be real handy when it comes times to adjust the rudder gap. They are little tapered pins to align the bolt for the rudder and stabilizer and are threaded on the end  so you can unscrew them and use as a temporary bolts while adjustment are made
