Finally got started on building again. I bought a Sony digital video camera and I am going to start filming the building. It works pretty well by putting it on a tripod and hooking it up to the monitor and I can see the picture I am going to film. It has a remote to start and stop the camera. I am going to pick up the video I shot of the practice panel building and make a presentation for new builders using it for the local EAA chapter Friday night. Have talked to a few members and would like to put together some seminars on things like welding, painting, electrical, fiberglass and get some of the members involved in teaching in area they have expertice. |
I Finally got back to building the left wing after getting the hanger sale done. I went out to visit Boyd and Shane today and they are prosealing their tanks and it got me inspired to get going again. They are really doing nice work, check it out |

I am flush riveting all the plate nuts on the spar in place, wow I forgot how many there were |

Machine countersink the holes for a #8 screw. Shown is the special countersink for this job from Avery. It has a #30 pilot but is 1/2" diameter which seems to prevent the chattering and make a nice hole. The nut plates have been installed before countersinking these holes and as the countersink gets a bit deeper the pilot centers in the nut plate. |

The way the plans called to make a jig didn't work for me. It was way to light and broke and you had to work on the table constantly turning it around. I was at Boyd Seal's hanger and they are doing their tanks and made a real nice stand that is much more heavy duty and at the right height to work on, and the best thing is you can walk around it to work, so I made a new design based on theirs. I added a couple of things like locking castors and handles. The handle made moving my parts to the hanger very nice.

New Jig |

New jig side view. Now that I have a proper jig I can get going on the tanks again. Boyd told me that the reason I don't ever get any building done is that I am always taking pictures or screwing around with some other thing that gets me of track. I am afraid he is right. I also just finished the video on the entire building of the test airfoil panel, which I presented to my EAA chapter last Friday, see next picture on this page. I am going to make copies available at cost if anyone wants one. |

Side view. This arrangement makes if much nicer to work on the tank as you have very good access and it is at the right height. |

Attach the K-1000-06 plate nuts for the W-822 access plate to the W-706A flange (note that the access late uses #6 crews on the spar flange and #8 screws around the perimeter.)

| Attach the K-1000-4 center section attach nutplates to the forward side of the spar. Countersink the W-706C doubler plate to allow the flush heads of the rifer to rest on the aft side of spar. The allows the doubler plate to fit flush against the F-704G-1 vertical bars ( DWG 11) | |

I have decided that I need to focus on getting the hanger ready and get moved in till I can start working there. I saw a nice wing jig and copied it and am going to work on a new table for the hanger
Again I saw the jig Boyd Seal is using on his RV8 wings and it is one that stands on its own and you can walk around it to work on the wing. Click here to see his wing mounted in it. I also put on some locking castor wheels and it moves around easily. I am going to build one for the right wing also. |

Left Wing Jig
This is going to make working on the wing much better as it has good access and the ability to more it around on the castors. I am going to work on getting the hanger to a point where I can make the move and do the wing construction there. The airport is a much better place to work as generally there are fewer disruptions and there is always someone around to ask for advice. |

I have had to stop building for some time now as I am trying to get the hanger construction organized. Click here to see progress Hopefully will get back to building soon. It has been a record hot summer here in Utah and I tried to work in the (unairconditioned shop) it was just to hot. I am going to make getting some construction on the hanger done and hope to resume work on the wing in September when it cools down. |

Finally got to resume work on the left wing after long delay in reopening old business, Mowers & Blowers |
