Engine Installation
Before lifting the engine Page FF1-2 shows installing the oil cooler box assembly, Page FF1-3 shows firewall fitting preparation, and FF1-4 shows all the various attachments and fittings to put on the engine before lifting it in place. Install the prop governor. In our case this required loosening it and rotating it so the attachment rod from the prop control cable is in the right position.

Rick my partner says about this, the more the merrier or everyone present has a different opinion. I remember reading Tim's website and him saying something like it did not look like it would fit but by just jiggling it around it kind of fell in place. "You just need to get the right amount of lift and tilt" I think that is pretty much what happened with us. We picked it up out of the crate with the cherry picker and put our hydraulic lift cart under it to lift it a bit and allow us to wiggle it around a bit and it just kind of finely popped into place.

Another Item we bought was an Oil Filter adapter from B & C Specialties It allows the filter to be removed much more easily and with less mess than the factory filter which comes straight back from the engine. It does require an spacer, ours was a 1.4 inch on our IO-540. Also another problem was the original filer attaches with 3 bolts and one stud. The B&C adapter attaches with 4 bolts, which they do send you. The problem was that you have to remove one stud that is replaced by a bolt. We could not get it to come out by double nutting it, so we had to buy a rather expensive stud puller from Snap-On for $85. It did work very nicely.
